Description
Ever since Canada took on the mission back in 2005, thousands of Canadian men and women have shuffled in and out of Kandahar Airfield (KAF). Many have been civilians--plumbers, electricians, mechanics, payroll administrators, etc. Curious to know what sort of preparation these folks receive for life on a military base in the middle of Afghanistan's most dangerous province, Esprit de Corps enrolled for training with the Canadian Forces Contractor Augmentation Program (CANCAP) delivered by SNC-Lavalin. Posing as a general labourer heading for KAF at the end of May, our undercover staffer walked into the range control booth at Connaught Ranges, a Canadian Forces facility just outside Ottawa. He was handed a portfolio of reading material and administrative information and then shown to the barracks--a formation of long, double-wide trailers where he would be bunking for the rest of the very hot week.
